Using Virtual Reality for hand hygiene training

The Tork Clean Hands Training App

Virtual Reality (VR) is not only fun and engaging, as a training tool it is also highly effective. Research suggests that we remember only 10% of what we read, 20% of what we hear and 30% of what we see. However, when undertaking or simulating an action, we can remember as much as 90%!

Picking up on these findings leading hygiene paper company Essity has worked in collaboration with behavioural scientists, university hospitals and global hand hygiene experts to develop software for use in VR to focus on hand hygiene training particularly in healthcare environments such as care homes and hospitals. And there is good reason: proper and effective hand hygiene is considered the single most important method of preventing and controlling infection in healthcare facilities.

The award winning Tork Clean Hands Training app simulates real life situations in a virtual world. Users practice hand hygiene to help them fully comply with the World Health Organisation’s ‘5 moments for hand hygiene’.
